The Currie-Henderson Academy of Irish Dancing is one of the oldest and most successful Irish dancing schools in Australia. Established by Janice Currie-Henderson (ADCRG) in 1959 under the name “Currie Academy”, the school has taught thousands of pupils, and won over one hundred national titles.

As well as being a training ground for State and Australian champions, the studio also has a strong reputation for performance at public events, corporate functions, concerts, galas, weddings, fetes, festivals and cultural celebrations. Read more about hiring Irish dancers for a performance.

Largely due to this experience in stage performance, many pupils have gone on to perform around the world in Irish dance shows, including Riverdance. In fact, Janice’s son, Craig Henderson (TCRG), was a member of Riverdance for nine years, and was Dance Captain of the show for three of those.

In 2007, Craig completed his teachers’ exams and the studio officially adopted its current name, the Currie-Henderson Academy of Irish Dancing.

After many years of service to the Australian and global Irish dancing communities, Janice (widely known as “Miss Jan”), was awarded the honour of being named the very first Patron of the Australian Irish Dancing Association (AIDA). Regarded as one of the foremost authorities on Irish dancing in Australia, Miss Jan has previously served several terms as President of both the AIDA National Body and the NSW Branch. She also served as Vice-President of An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, the global Irish Dancing Commission, for many years. Miss Jan is also currently the Vice-President of the AIDA NSW Branch.

While the Currie-Henderson Academy has a history of success and achievement, Miss Jan has always placed a strong emphasis on friendships through Irish Dancing. The school is first and foremost a place for children to have fun, make friends, get fit, and learn in a safe and happy environment. The team spirit at Currie-Henderson is second to none, and the children make lifelong friendships that stand the test of time.
